More than 5,000 of the jolly, orange fruits make up the display, all lit from within by LED lights. The pumpkins are hand-carved by Passion for Pumpkins, a professional multi-media company out of Oxford, MA. In fact the carvers expect to go through about 20,000 pumpkins during the course of the Jack-O-Lantern Spectacular’s 32-night run. Many of the pumpkins seen at the beginning of the display’s run have to be changed out well before it closes on November 5th. Of course, jack-o-lanterns age pretty quickly. Cars, planes, space travel, computers and more – and all in intricately carved pumpkins! Artful backgrounds and music round out the show. then it’s off to the New World and up to the industrial revolution. You’ll discover the ancient civilizations of Egypt and Rome, and visit Europe during the Middle Ages. When you visit the Jack-O-Lantern Spectacular, you’ll travel back in time to dinosaurs and the last ice age. These jack-o-lanterns are much more than just leering faces. You may be wondering how 5,000 jack-o-lanterns can be interesting. Upwards of 140,000 people come to see the Jack-O-Lantern Spectacular every year.
